Relationships are a huge part of what makes our life meaningful. Struggling in our most important relationships can be stressful, painful, and excruciatingly lonely. I feel privileged to help couples and individuals improve and deepen their relationships. I bring years of research on human attachment as well as formal training in the most evidence-based couples therapy system, Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). I also use years of training in cognitive behavioral therapy to help clients gain insight into and control over negative emotions. My third area of expertise, pediatric neuropsychological testing, allows me to help parents finally get answers to their questions about what their child needs to succeed. Whether you are new to therapy or have been to therapy before but haven’t tried evidence-based treatments, I’m excited to work with you.

About Dr. Peryl Agishtein

Dr. Peryl Agishtein completed her PhD in clinical psychology at The Graduate Center of the City University of New York.  Her interest in biology and in the puzzle of assessment led her to pursue a specialization in neuropsychology. During graduate school, Dr. Agishtein received training in neuropsychological and psychological evaluations among geriatric, adult, and pediatric populations at the Columbia University Department of Aging and Dementia; Rockland Center for Applied Psychology; South Beach Psychiatric Center; and Queens College Psychological Center. After earning her doctoral degree, Dr. Agishtein completed postdoctoral training in pediatric neuropsychology at Columbia University Medical Center’s Department of Neurology.

Throughout graduate school and beyond, Dr. Agishtein also indulged a passion for helping individuals improve their lives by pursuing multiple electives and opportunities in clinically-focused training. She also engaged in, and continues to engage in, experimental research regarding attachment processes; everyday stress and anxiety; and religiosity (as well as some of the links between these different areas). As an early-career psychologist, Dr. Agishtein decided to further her clinical expertise by pursuing specialized training in some of these same topics. Her current areas of expertise include EFT couples therapy (a relationship therapy modality that is based on attachment processes, with a large body of evidence supporting its efficacy) as well as numerous cognitive-behavioral therapy techniques to treat anxiety disorders, OCD-related disorders, and mood disorders.

Dr. Agishtein has held a number of positions in different areas and communities that utilized her unique and varied expertise. After completing her post-doctoral training in neuropsychology, she was tapped to develop an Assessment Department at one of the biggest providers of mental health services in Rockland County, the Center for Applied Psychology at Bikur Cholim (CAPs). In this capacity, Dr. Agishtein founded, developed, and directed a new department devoted to comprehensive evaluation services: she provided services, trained and supervised psychology fellows in neuropsychology, and worked collaboratively with the Orthodox Jewish community to provide services in a helpful, time-effective, and culturally-sensitive way. Dr. Agishtein was then invited to found the Rockland County branch of an anxiety clinic, in which position she deepened her expertise in all anxiety disorders. After moving to Long Island, Dr. Agishtein spent four years working in the outpatient and inpatient units of St. Charles Hospital, providing neuropsychological evaluations for a range of disorders while running clinical therapy didactics and supervision for colleagues. Throughout the past six years, Dr. Agishtein also maintained Lifespan Neuropsychology as a private practice based in NY, where she provides private neuropsychological evaluations and therapy as well as didactics and supervision for neuropsychologists who aspire to provide culturally sensitive and useful assessment within the Orthodox Jewish community. Dr. Agishtein continues to practice remotely in NY State (and in person for several weeks a year), and is excited to bring her practice to Israel at this time. She feels lucky to spend her days helping people deepen their relationships and their overall happiness.
